Alien v Predator : Requiem

Alien v Predator : Requiem came out on DVD!

Although because of a friend who went to America for a holiday I got it a bit in April.

But anyway.

The movie is very different to the first one, it’s a lot more teenage in my opinion… I don’t think it was nearly as good as the first Aliens vs. Predator but I think it was still pretty good.

As with its predecessor, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was not screened for critics, although once able to view the film, the response was largely negative. Based on 61 reviews, the film scored a 15% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes, and 29 out of 100 at Metacritic, the worst for a film in the franchises.

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was nominated for two Golden Raspberry awards in the fields of Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie and Worst Prequel or Sequel. The awards however, went to I Know Who Killed Me and Daddy Day Camp.

Spoilers below:

Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem picks up where the first AvP left off, with an alien bursting through the chest of a fallen Predator. (Which creates the Predalien)

The spaceship carrying the predators crashes to Earth and lands in a remote Midwestern town, where the aliens and the Predator go to battle. Over what? Who cares! This movie is full of fight scenes. The town is populated by the would-be heroes and wimps one would expect from an alien  movie: a recently discharged military mom, a frustratingly naive, doe-eyed sheriff, an ex-convict just released from prison, his lovelorn younger brother, the cute blond girl he wants and her jerk of a boyfriend.

I did get a pretty good laugh with the following line:

“The government doesn’t lie to people.”

Those who saw Transformers might remember this line… Funny how the writers copy the line from a movie released less than 6 months ago…

It is a pretty good movie, definitely worth getting the DVD, but I would get it with the first AvP as well.

It’s worth watching!!!
